PAULA - MEET THE DESIGNER
Born in London and educated in Chester, Paula studied for her degree in Embroidered and Woven Textiles, at the beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art.
She started her career as a designer in Scotland, but soon found herself back in London working as a fashion designer.
Paula's work has taken her all over the world; shopping for inspiration, developing samples and attending trade fairs. She also worked abroad as a designer for nearly 5 years. It was been a truly wonderful experience and has resulted in many lifelong friendships.
Getting married in 2009 proved to be a turning point
Paula always adored vintage fashion, especially the styling of the 1950’s, and wanted her own wedding dress to reflect this.
She visited many boutiques but she felt they did not provide an informal environment where she could relax. She felt out of her comfort zone - nor was there any sign of the dress she hoped to find.
Paula was not alone. Many of her friends also felt the same way.
Undeterred, Paula searched for an original vintage dress. It was difficult to find anything to fit due to the different body shape of women from that time. The dresses often had marks, tears or looked a little tired; not surprising as an original 1950’s dress will have been around for approximately 60 years.
So what to do?
Paula followed her passion, started work on her own collection of luxurious vintage-inspired wedding dresses and Paula Moore the brand came into being. Her aim is to produce vintage era gowns, made to fit today’s women's' bodies, at an affordable price.
Hand-Made in Great Britain
Paula is proud to use only British pattern making, sampling, and production. She developed her gowns with Lara Ashley, a renowned couture bridal specialist who makes Paula's patterns by hand to the highest standard.
Each dress has an internal boned canvas bodice which provides structure, support and the perfect silhouette. Paula Moore is unusual in this, as most dresses have boning sewn into the lining layer which is less supportive and a little flimsy. The Paula Moore collection takes inspiration from vintage bridal and ball gowns, altered to fit the bodies of today’s women, then individually made to order in the UK.
Following the end of her incubator residency at Central Parade, Paula offers a personal, by appointment service for you to take your time trying on the collection and not feel rushed in any way. From her own experience, Paula knows that planning your wedding is extremely exciting and great fun. Finding your dream dress and seeing yourself in it for the first time is a fantastic feeling, and something she hopes to have the privilege in sharing with you.
